Morocco Spent 22 Billion Dirhams on Gas Subsidies in 2022, Finance Ministry Reports

The subsidies granted for gas cost the state budget 22 billion dirhams last year, according to data provided by the Ministry of Finance.
Questioned in parliament about the measures taken by the government to limit the rise in prices, Minister Nadia Fettah Alaoui explained that this contribution made it possible to maintain the prices of large gas bottles at 40 dirhams, while the rest, amounting to 90 dirhams, remains at the expense of the State.
At the same time, the subsidy of wheat through the Compensation Fund, in 2022, cost the State around 10.5 billion dirhams, in addition to sugar, whose expenses amounted to 4.8 billion dirhams over the same period, the minister added. This year, the government will allocate a budget of 26 billion dirhams to the Compensation Fund, expressing the wish that the prices of subsidized products will fall on the international market, she continued.
Among the other measures taken by the executive, the minister recalled the exceptional subsidy for the transport sector with around 3.9 billion dirhams in financial payments to professionals. To this is added the subsidy of electricity prices, amounting to 5 billion dirhams allocated to the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE).
