Morocco-Spain: traffic resumes between Algeciras and Tanger Med, but vigilance remains
Maritime traffic has resumed this Saturday on the main line connecting Algeciras to Tanger Med, after several days of paralysis due to bad weather. While this reopening allows for the gradual easing of the flow of passengers and goods, tensions on the supply of fuels and butane gas are beginning to be felt in Morocco.
The grip is partially loosening on the Strait of Gibraltar. The Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) has confirmed the gradual resumption of rotations to the Tanger Med port complex. A dozen ships have already set course for Morocco to absorb the significant accumulation of vehicles and trucks caused by the storm.
However, the normalization is not complete: the fast link between Tarifa and Tanger Ville remains completely suspended, as the maritime conditions do not yet allow safe navigation for this type of vessel.
The logistical disruptions of the past few days have had a direct impact on the Moroccan domestic market. Supply difficulties for fuels and butane gas have been reported at some sales outlets. This situation is the result of the combination of delays in the docking of ships and damage to road networks that slow down land distribution.
While the Algeciras container terminals are operational again, caution remains. The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) maintains an alert bulletin for this weekend, forecasting the continuation of strong winds and sustained rains until Wednesday, which could force shipping companies to make new schedule adjustments.
