Morocco, Spain, Portugal Unite in Historic Cross-Continental 2030 World Cup Bid

In the eyes of Rabat and Lisbon, Morocco’s bid with Spain and Portugal to host the 2023 World Cup announced on March 14 in Kigali, Rwanda, will be "that of the link between Africa and Europe".
In a joint statement on the occasion of the high-level meeting held in Lisbon on May 12, Morocco and Portugal welcomed their joint bid, with Spain, to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, reports Le Point. According to Aziz Akhannouch, Head of the Moroccan Government, this bid "will bring Africa and Europe closer together". It "constitutes a precedent in the history of football, uniting for the first time countries from two continents" and will allow "a cultural and humanistic rapprochement", note the two countries.
"This joint bid will be that of the link between Africa and Europe, between the north and south of the Mediterranean and between the African, Arab and Euro-Mediterranean worlds," Rabat and Lisbon also stressed. They are not the only countries vying for the World Cup that will mark the centenary of the competition. These three countries will face the joint bid of Uruguay, the first country to host and win the competition in 1930, – Argentina-Paraguay and Chile.
