The Africa Cup of Nations has the merit of revealing certain Moroccan players. This is the case of Soufiane Boufal, who was exceptional in the last match of the Atlas Lions against Malawi.
He is now one of the key pieces in Vahid Halilhodzic’s attacking system, says the regional daily Ouest-France. Soufiane Boufal has shown himself to be up to the task assigned to him and has been applying himself since the start of the CAN. The player had to work hard to show the coach that he deserves to be part of the national team.
According to the newspaper, the current Soufiane Boufal has matured mentally and has taken the time to work hard to improve his game. This has allowed him to excel since the start of the CAN and to emerge as a major asset for the Moroccan national team. Moreover, during the Atlas Lions’ first group match, the coach had been won over by the player’s efforts. "I had a lot of discussions with Soufiane Boufal, during which I made him responsible for his talent. He had not done much with the national team for four years, but now he has scored two goals in two matches," the coach had rejoiced.
Today, the SCO Angers player is a real attacking threat on the left flank, and has been an artisan behind all of Morocco’s victories during this Africa Cup of Nations. He will be an asset for the Atlas Lions who face the Carthage Eagles in the quarter-finals on Sunday. Close to the goal, Morocco has no intention of stopping there.
