Morocco: ’Sorcerer’ Arrested for Selling Donkey Tongues as Love Charms

The police arrested in Sidi Bennour an individual who was posing as a sorcerer. The defendant offered his clients donkey tongues supposed to make their men obedient.
Many women in the region were queuing up to acquire the donkey tongue from this alleged sorcerer who made them believe that the use of this "charm" made men obedient to their wives or lovers. The accused was selling the donkey tongue for 500 dirhams each, according to local sources.
The local authorities have recently reported attacks on donkeys, found without their tongues, on the outskirts of the city. The link between these sordid crimes and the new business of the alleged sorcerer was quickly established. The defendant obtained the donkey tongues from the perpetrators of these crimes, in exchange for sums of money.
The defendant was placed in detention, pending his trial. The search conducted at his home allowed the seizure of bags containing scorpions, snake skins, preserved animals, turtle shells, as well as women’s and men’s clothing probably belonging to his victims.
