Morocco: fake sorcerer, real scammer

The court of first instance in Tinghir sentenced a man in his forties accused of practicing roqya on women whom he photographed in compromising positions in order to defraud them.
Prosecuted for fraud, threat of disclosure of compromising facts, sexual harassment, defamation and illegal practice of an activity, the accused was sentenced on Friday to two years in prison and ordered to pay compensation of 4,000 dirhams to the plaintiff. The court decided to acquit him of the charges of incitement to prostitution, dissemination of intimate images of a person without their consent and sexual harassment.
The convicted man had been arrested by the judicial police of Tinghir following complaints filed by victims against him. He made the women believe that he was able to solve their problems. Once they agreed to participate in his roqya sessions, he took compromising photos of them that he then used to blackmail them.
