Morocco Snubs Spanish and German Ambassadors Amid Western Sahara Dispute

The Moroccan government did not invite the ambassadors of Spain and Germany to the meeting held on Wednesday, June 15 with foreign ambassadors accredited in Morocco. The diplomatic tension with the two countries on the Sahara issue is to blame.
The meeting held on Wednesday in Rabat between Chakib Benmoussa, the president of the Special Commission on the Development Model in Morocco (CSMD), and the ambassadors accredited in Morocco, took place in the absence of the Spanish and German ambassadors. The latter did not receive an official invitation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to attend this meeting intended to present the new strategic options of Morocco to foreign ambassadors.

Morocco has therefore excluded the Spanish and German ambassadors due to the diplomatic crisis opened with these two European countries on the Sahara issue, the same source believes, specifying that Morocco has unsuccessfully tried to obtain the support of European countries in the Sahara conflict and has constantly invited them to follow the example of the United States under Trump who recognized the Moroccanness of the Sahara.
In a recent statement, the German embassy in Morocco informed its nationals that due to the unilateral suspension by Morocco since March 1, 2021, of cooperation with the embassy and German institutions, consular services will be provided to a very limited extent.
