Morocco Slips 7 Places in 2019 Social Progress Index, Ranks 82nd Globally

The 2019 Social Progress Index ranked Morocco 82nd out of a list of 149 countries. The Kingdom thus loses 7 places.

Bad news for Morocco. According to the 2019 Social Progress Index, the country has fallen 7 places, from 76 to 82 points, and is ranked 82nd out of a list of 149 countries with a score of 66.04.

This position represents a notable change in one year, mainly due to poor results in terms of access to higher education and inclusion.

The Moroccan dashboard, in the index of the 11 red points, shows a decline in performance. Morocco occupies a low position in the "Adult literacy rate" indicator with a score of 69.43 and has obtained poor access to quality education with a score of only 1.47. In terms of freedom of religion and political rights, the Kingdom recorded respective scores of 1.44 and 14.

As for the yellow points which represent the average performance of the indicators examined, they dominate Morocco’s scorecard. The Kingdom has average performance in terms of undernourishment with a score of 3.90, and particularly 133.52 for maternal mortality.

The country’s scores are average for almost all indicators, except for personal safety, homicide rate, corruption and electricity quality, as well as access to electricity, for which it performs relatively well or is slightly performing.
