Morocco Sets Zakat Al-Fitr at 23 Dirhams for Ramadan 2025

The Supreme Council of Ulema has set the amount of Zakat Al-Fitr for the year 1446 of the Hegira (2025) at 23 dirhams per person. This amount represents an increase compared to the 20 dirhams of previous years.
Zakat Al-Fitr is a mandatory alms given at the end of the month of Ramadan. The Council recalls that it was instituted by the Prophet Muhammad to purify the fasters and help the less fortunate.
Traditionally, Zakat Al-Fitr corresponds to a sa’a nabawi (prophetic bushel), or about 2.5 kg of cereals or flour.
The Council also specifies that it is possible to fulfill this obligation in cash. The amount of 23 dirhams constitutes a minimum; people with the means are invited to give more.
It is recommended to pay the Zakat Al-Fitr two to three days before Eid Al Fitr, in order to allow an efficient distribution to the beneficiaries.
