Morocco Sets September 2 for School Reopening Amid Pandemic Recovery

The official date of the 2020-2021 school year in Morocco is known. It is scheduled for September 2, after the school holidays were brought forward due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In front of the elected representatives of the people, the Minister of National Education announced this date of resumption of classes. According to the member of the government, his department has been working since mid-June on the preparations in a very particular context. In his opinion, the month of September will be devoted to catching up and support in order to strengthen the intellectual capacities of the students and to guarantee a school year under good conditions.
Continuing his explanations, Saaïd Amzazi promised to strengthen the school offer by building even more infrastructure for educational establishments in order to accommodate the growing number of students. The Minister of National Education also wants to adopt an approach that takes into account the specificities and nature of the regions and provinces of the Kingdom. He has also planned to carry out the early allocation operations of the teaching staff for the current 2019-2020 school year.
For Amzazi, the number of beneficiaries of the education and training system in the national education sector will reach more than 8 million and 46 thousand students (about 39% of them are in rural areas), including more than 900,000 children in primary education (about 34% of them are in rural areas).
For the moment, no details have been given on how the lessons will be taught (in person or remotely in the context of the continued health crisis).
