Morocco Set to Launch Domestic COVID-19 Vaccine Production

The preparations for the manufacture of the "made in Morocco" vaccine are complete. Morocco will soon launch its own vaccine.

King Mohammed VI could preside over the launch ceremony of the "made in Morocco" vaccine, the manufacturing preparations of which are complete, reports Maghreb Intelligence. The launch date has not yet been communicated. "All the logistical and technical equipment related to the manufacture of anti-Covid vaccines are completely ready, but the decision to officially open the factory belongs to the Ministry of Health," said Lamia Tazi, CEO of Sutima.

Same tone from Saïd Moutawakil, member of the scientific committee against Covid-19. "The official launch is up to the state institutions," he told Hespress, adding that this project, which is an initiative of the public and private sectors, has been closely monitored by the Chinese commission set up for this purpose, as well as by the Moroccan authorities. "All international pharmaceutical standards are available at the factory, pending its launch by the State," assured Saïd Moutawaki.

This project aims to launch an initial short-term capacity to produce 5 million doses of the anti-Covid-19 vaccine per month, before gradually doubling this capacity in the medium term, with a total investment of 500 million dollars, a press release from the royal house had specified.
