Morocco Launches $500 Million Vaccine Factory to Boost African Supply

King Mohammed VI presided, on Thursday, in the province of Benslimane, the launch ceremony of the construction of a factory for the manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines and other vaccines.
The factory will produce vaccines against the coronavirus and other diseases, with production expected to reach 116 million units by 2024. In total, the factory will require an investment of between 400 and 500 million dollars.
Its objective is to manufacture, between 2022 and 2025, "active substances for more than 20 vaccines, of which three would be against the coronavirus... to cover 70% of the needs of the kingdom and more than 60% of the needs across Africa," it is reported.
Specifically, this project consists of setting up a vaccine manufacturing and filling plant with 3 industrial lines whose combined production capacity will reach 116 million units in 2024. These lines will be dedicated to the production of pre-filled syringes, liquid vials and lyophilized vials. The launch of the production of test batches is scheduled for July 30, 2022.
