US Donates 1.6 Million Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine Doses to Morocco

The United States has donated new doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to Morocco through the COVAX program, an initiative aimed at ensuring equitable global distribution of vaccines. The reception was effective this Saturday, January 29 in Casablanca.

In total, 1.6 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine were delivered to Morocco by the United States this Saturday. This second donation of vaccines adds to the recent delivery of seven specially equipped freezers to the kingdom, which have increased the storage capacity of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection for COVID-19 vaccines, explains the US embassy in a press release. "These freezers, provided by USAID in coordination with UNICEF, have a storage capacity of more than 2 million vaccine doses - which represents 45% of Morocco’s ultra-cold chain storage capacity," it is specified.

The United States had delivered 850,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine to the kingdom last October and 300,000 doses of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine last July. "The United States is committed to the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, making an arsenal of vaccines available to the world and working closely with key allies like Morocco to help them rebuild and emerge even stronger," said the Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Rabat, David Greene.
