Morocco’s Selim Amallah Honors Late Mother in World Cup Quarterfinal Against Portugal

As they take the field on Saturday against Portugal, the Atlas Lions will be playing for the millions of Moroccan supporters but also for their loved ones. This is the case for Selim Amallah who, according to his family, will be defending the national colors for his late mother.
After eliminating Spain from the World Cup, Morocco faces Portugal in the quarter-finals of the competition, a highly anticipated match by the football world. Walid Regragui has the opportunity to write another page of history by reaching the semi-finals, a task that is certainly difficult, but not impossible.
To do this, the Moroccan coach will have to count on his players but also the millions of supporters around the world, among whom is Selim Amallah’s family. From their village of Hautrage in the municipality of Saint-Ghislain in Belgium, his relatives are preparing to accompany Selim and the national team.
Expressing his pride in seeing his nephew make history with Morocco, Mohamed, the player’s uncle, declared to RTBF: "It’s incredible to see Selim playing with stars like Hakimi. He will also meet Ronaldo. I’m very proud." "It’s really crazy to see him like that on TV for the World Cup. We come from a small village in Saint-Ghislain and to go this far is very good for our town, for Hainaut. We are very proud," he added.
For her part, Samia, the player’s aunt, said that the attacking midfielder has not always had an easy life. "He lost his mother. When I see him on TV, I know he’s playing for her. It’s full of emotions at the same time," she said.
