Morocco Sees Surge in Foreign Film and TV Productions, Boosting Local Economy

2018 was a good year for the expenses of foreign productions in Morocco with a very strong increase compared to 2017.
According to figures just published by the Moroccan Cinematographic Center (CCM) on the sidelines of the National Film Festival of Tangier (FNFT), 111 short films, 35 TV series, 18 TV movies and 163 commercials were shot in the kingdom last year.
Regarding foreign productions, Morocco hosted last year 17 feature films for a total budget of 322 million dirhams, up 13.47% compared to 2017. The CCM also reports the shooting of 16 foreign TV series for an investment estimated at 374 million dirhams.
Last year, the CCM proudly stated, 30 Moroccan films (22 feature films and 8 short films) were awarded in foreign festivals and 59 were selected out of competition. In addition, several Moroccan films were ranked among the most watched films of the year in the country. These are Lahnech, Korsa and Razzia.
