Morocco Sees Surge in Covid-19 Cases as Vaccination Efforts Intensify

The epidemiological situation is increasingly worrying in Morocco. Today, only the anti-Covid vaccination campaign and compliance with precautionary measures can reverse the trend.

For a few days now, Morocco has been experiencing a significant increase in new Covid cases. On July 28 last, the kingdom reached 9,428 cases of infection, recalled in an article the doctor and researcher in health policies and systems, Tayeb Hamdi, stressing that "fortunately, our country is recording other records, the most important of which are the vaccination of more than half a million citizens in one day, and the vaccination of nearly one and a half million citizens in three days, as well as a record number of tests performed in 24 hours".

However, in the coming days, the situation could worsen and lead to an increase in mortality and pressure on hospitals and medical staff "due to the relaxation in behavior and sometimes even irresponsibility, and due to the new mutations that are spreading more quickly", shares the Map, citing the specialist.

But, thanks to the involvement of citizens in the vaccination operation, the timely acquisition of new doses and the good management of the national campaign, today, 28% of the population are fully vaccinated and 38% have already received at least the first dose and the operation is already extending to young people aged 25 and over. Moreover, the vaccination coverage will make it possible to curb the resurgence of the epidemic as quickly as possible, added the doctor.

Furthermore, to better counter the evil, it will be necessary to control the spread of the virus by adopting individual and collective precautionary measures, further develop vaccination to break the transmission chains of the infection. Thus, the worst could be avoided without having to resort to restrictive measures likely to impact once again the income, movements and freedom of citizens, as well as economic and school activities, Hamdi concluded.
