Morocco Sees Spike in COVID-19 Cases, Health Ministry Urges Vigilance

New cases of coronavirus contamination have recently been recorded in zone 2 and the relaxation zone 1 of confinement. The Moroccan Ministry of Health calls on the population to strictly respect preventive measures.
The increase in cases of contamination is explained by the appearance of outbreaks in family and professional environments. A family cluster was detected in Kénitra, with more than 100 people infected. According to the epidemiological department, infected contact persons continue to be recorded in several cities, particularly in Casablanca, Fez, Tangier and Marrakech.
Zone 2 has seen a record increase in new reported cases. The same is true for the relaxation zone 1 of confinement: positive cases have been recorded in some provinces such as Tetouan (9 cases) and in the Eastern regions, Guelmim-Oued Noun and Beni Mellal-Khénifra.
The reason? Relaxation in the application of protection procedures. Faced with this situation, the Ministry of Health warns that the easing of confinement does not mean relaxation in compliance with preventive measures. It calls on the population to continue to avoid gatherings, respect physical distancing, observe hygiene rules and refrain from visiting family to protect the elderly and those with chronic illnesses.
