Morocco Seeks Urgent COVID Vaccine Deliveries from Four Countries as Supplies Dwindle

Morocco is concerned about the depletion of its stock of anti-Covid-19 vaccines. It is also mobilizing to obtain deliveries from 4 suppliers in the coming days.

Currently, Morocco hopes for the arrival of deliveries of Sinopharm in China, Sputnik-V in Russia and AstraZeneca in South Korea and India. Although the delivery date has not yet been set, the orders are expected between "late March and early April", says Professor Azzedine Ibrahimi, member of the National Scientific Committee of the Moroccan Ministry of Health, reports Panorapost. Morocco is awaiting two million doses of the Chinese vaccine Sinopharm, one million doses of the Russian vaccine Sputnik-V and an unknown quantity of the AstraZeneca vaccine from India. In addition, approximately 1.5 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine from South Korea will also arrive in Morocco as part of the COVAX program of the World Health Organization (WHO).

However, the Serum Institute of India (SII) indicated last week that the shipment of the AstraZeneca order in India had been delayed, laments Professor Ibrahimi, however proud of the results of the national vaccination campaign which can be described as a "small success". Since the start of the campaign at the end of January, more than 4.26 million people have been vaccinated and more than 2.59 million have now received the second dose.

Moreover, on the African continent, Morocco ranks first with more than 95% of vaccinations carried out, according to statistics from the website ourworldindata.org. A momentum that is being slowed down by a stock that is running out.
