Morocco Secures $5 Billion in Development Funding from Arab Fund Since 1974

Between 1974 and 2020, the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) has mobilized an amount of $5 billion for Morocco, making the kingdom its second largest client after Egypt.
Created in 1971, the AFESD aims to support Arab countries in their economic and social development through loans, technical assistance and grants, becoming a strategic partner of Morocco.
Thus, 76 projects have been approved for the Kingdom until the end of 2020. The latest one concerns an emergency response program to the Covid-19 pandemic approved in May 2020 by AFESD for a financing of $148.5 million.
The transport-logistics sector has benefited the most from AFESD’s interventions with nearly $2.68 billion. Among the most important projects financed is the "Nador West Med" port complex.
