Morocco Revamps Primary School Curriculum with Focus on STEM and Civic Education

In Morocco, the novelties of the primary school curricula for the 2020-2021 school year have been made public by the Ministry of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research. Here are the details.
In a press release, the ministry specifies that these novelties are mainly focused on the gradual transition from eight modules in one year to six for the entire cycle, the introduction of new content and the revision of teaching methodologies and content in science, mathematics, civic education, history and geography.
According to the department in charge of education, this is the same approach adopted in 2016 for the Islamic education program for primary school as well as the strengthening of the time slots for science and civic education.
Similarly, a new approach has been adopted in the teaching of the Arabic language through early reading learning from the first years of primary school and the establishment of an operational approach for the foreign language based on best international practices.
The emphasis has also been placed on the definition of common interlanguage themes for each school level while renewing the content in order to project the student into the knowledge society and help him/her to better open up to the major transformations that have occurred in the fields of economy, social relations or technology, continues the same source.
