Morocco Restricts Olive Exports to Stabilize Domestic Market Through 2024

To ensure a regular supply of the domestic market, Morocco has just decided to impose strict restrictions on the export of olives.
The Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration (ADII) has issued a circular specifying the types of olives affected by the new export restrictions. From now on, the export of fresh or refrigerated olives, processed olives, olive oil and olive pomace oil will be subject to licensing.
This system, in effect until December 31, 2024, has several objectives. It is mainly about enhancing domestic production, stabilizing consumer prices, ensuring the continuity of the olive oil sector and guaranteeing food security for Moroccans.
It should be noted that, despite persistent droughts, the expected olive production for the fall of 2023 is 1.07 million tons, a significant decrease of 44% compared to 2021.
