These figures come from the customs and indirect taxes administration at the end of a working meeting of the national commission to combat cigarette smuggling. During the meeting, participants were presented with the 7th study on the prevalence of contraband cigarettes for 2020.
This rate of 1.37% was made possible thanks to the efforts made by the customs administration, the Royal Gendarmerie, the police and the economic operators active in the field. The authorities in recent years have undertaken to "fight against cigarette smuggling and suppress any fraudulent activity in this matter".
