Morocco Reports Rise in Birth and Death Registrations Amid Pandemic

In 2021, the civil registry services in Morocco recorded an average of 1,631 birth declarations and 488 death declarations per day, according to a report-assessment of the achievements of the Ministry of the Interior.
Birth and death declarations increased by 5.51% in the first half of 2021 compared to the same period a year earlier, according to the document prepared by the Ministry of the Interior and accessed by the newspaper Al Oâmk.
In detail, birth declarations recorded an increase of 0.53%, while death declarations increased by 26.48% compared to the same period last year. With the occurrence of the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of reported deaths has risen over the past two years, the report notes, specifying that, conversely, the number of births has dropped significantly.
These civil status statistics constitute an important source of demographic data. They were obtained through studies carried out in close collaboration with the Statistics Directorate of the High Commission for Planning (HCP).
