Morocco to Reopen 5,000 Mosques for Daily Prayers Amid COVID-19 Restrictions

The Minister of Habous and Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Toufiq, announced that 5,000 mosques distributed throughout the national territory will be gradually reopened.
These mosques will gradually reopen to perform the five daily prayers, in compliance with health measures and depending on the epidemiological situation in each region or province, the minister explained, during the oral question session at the House of Advisors.
According to the minister, these measures are part of the process of easing the restrictive measures related to the state of emergency until a return to normal.
Human and material resources have been mobilized to implement a protocol, in coordination with the local authorities, in order to strengthen the capacities of the local commissions set up in front of the mosques.
These measures, adds Toufiq, relate to the preparation of the mosques and the taking of the necessary measures to manage the flow at the entrances and exits of the mosques and respect the physical distance of at least one and a half meters.
Worshippers must be made aware of the need to comply with health rules and to ventilate the mosques by opening their doors and windows.
