Morocco’s Regragui Eyes U20 Stars to Bolster National Team Amid Injuries

The coach of the Moroccan national team, Walid Regragui, is reportedly considering calling up young talents who made a sensation during the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (U20 AFCON) to fill the void left by players unavailable due to injury or loss of form.
According to sources within the national team’s technical staff, Regragui has received detailed reports on six young talents who stood out during the U20 AFCON, namely: Jones El-Abdellaoui (Celta Vigo, Spain), Ilias Boumassaoudi (Den Bosch, Netherlands), Hossam Essadak (Ittihad Touarga), Ismaël Baouf (Anderlecht, Belgium), Saad El Haddad (Venezia, Italy), and Othman Maâma (Montpellier, France).
The Moroccan coach could call up two or three of these Atlas Cubs who delivered remarkable performances during the continental tournament for the next training camp at the Mohammed VI Football Center in Rabat, in preparation for friendly matches against Tunisia and Benin, scheduled for June 7 and 10, according to the same sources. They specify that the national coach is convinced that these young talents are capable of bringing added value to the Atlas Lions, in the short or medium term.
As a reminder, nine regular players might not be lined up for these two friendly matches against Tunisia and Benin, due to their participation with their European and Arab clubs in the Club World Cup, which will take place in the United States of America from June 14 to July 13. These include PSG right-back Achraf Hakimi, Brahim Diaz (Real Madrid), Adam Aznou (Bayern Munich), Yassine Bounou (Al Hilal), Soufiane Rahimi (Al Ain), Mehdi Benabid, Jamal Harkass (Wydad Athletic Club), Yahya Attiat Allah and Achraf Dari (Al Ahly).
