Morocco Coach Regragui to Revamp Squad for Crucial Pre-AFCON Friendlies
Walid Regragui, the coach of the Moroccan national team, is expected to revise his list of players for the two friendly matches against Tunisia and Benin, scheduled for June 7 and 10, in preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) Morocco 2025.
Regragui is forced to make changes for these matches due to the likely absence of eight players who are preparing with their European and Arab clubs for the Club World Cup, scheduled in the United States from June 14 to July 13.
According to sources within the Atlas Lions’ technical staff, Achraf Hakimi (PSG) and Adam Aznou (Bayern Munich) will be absent against Tunisia and Benin, which forces the Moroccan coach to call upon other talents to fill their positions.
At right-back, Regragui has the choice between Noussair Mazraoui (Manchester United) and the young talent Omar El Hilali from Espanyol to replace the PSG star. At left-back, Anass Salah-Eddine (AS Roma) could be lined up if he agrees to become a Moroccan international, after having played for the Dutch U21 team.
Also, Youssef Belaamri from Raja Club Athletic, or Zakaria El Ouahdi from Belgian club Genk, could replace Adam Aznou for these friendly matches against Tunisia and Benin. Regragui should also make some adjustments in central defense due to the repeated injuries of Romain Saïss, Chadi Riad, Nayef Aguerd and Abdelkabir Abqar.
