Morocco Refutes Claims of Unsafe Imported Dates Amid Social Media Boycott

The government has reacted to the rumor concerning the dangerousness of dates imported by Morocco, particularly from Algeria. These are the subject of a very active boycott campaign on social networks.
Speaking at the press conference following the government council, Mustapha Baitas specified that all imported food products, including dates, are subject to regular control in three stages.
This involves verifying the files and documents accompanying the dates, while the second stage focuses on checking the compliance of the dates with the attached certificates and attestations to verify that they meet the requirements of the texts and laws in force. As for the third stage, it concerns the sampling of representative samples for laboratory analysis, he recalled.
The latest control carried out by the National Office of Sanitary Safety of Food Products (ONSSA) on March 22nd took into account 35,769 tons of dates, of which 424 tons were unfit for consumption.
