Morocco Receives 650,400 AstraZeneca Doses Through Covax Program

Morocco received 650,400 doses of AstraZeneca on Wednesday, September 1st, as part of the Covax program. This will allow the kingdom to maintain and continue its vaccination campaign against the coronavirus normally.

"In accordance with the national strategy for the purchase and distribution of anti-Covid-19 vaccines, we welcome the receipt of this new batch of vaccines obtained under the COVAX initiative. This new batch is essential for the maintenance and continuation of our vaccination program, and it will allow us to return to normal life as soon as possible," said Khalid Ait Taleb, Minister of Health, in a statement.

"The delivery of additional doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine to the Kingdom of Morocco is very positive news for the local population, and further consolidates our efforts to fight the pandemic. Morocco was one of the very first countries to receive this vaccine at the regional level and we are pleased to demonstrate our commitment to its local population through this delivery," said Rami Scandar, AstraZeneca’s national president for the Middle East and Maghreb region.

This delivery brings the number of doses delivered to Morocco under the Covax international initiative to 1,910,400 (1,608,000 AstraZeneca, 302,400 Janssen). This new batch will allow Morocco to boost its vaccination campaign against the coronavirus, recently expanded to the 12-17 age group.

As of August 31, 18,539,073 have received the first dose, while 14,780,868 people have been injected with the two doses. The Covid-19 report shows 860,948 cases of contamination, 793,607 recoveries and 12,649 deaths.
