Morocco Ranks 79th in Global Financial Secrecy Index, Study Reveals

Morocco ranks 79th in the 2022 Financial Secrecy Index established by the UK-based NGO Tax Justice Network.
The index ranks each country based on how it contributes to global financial secrecy. It focuses on a jurisdiction’s overall role in enabling financial crime, such as money laundering and tax evasion, by providing the infrastructure and services that enable such activities through secret arrangements, including anonymous ownership of real estate and businesses and banking secrecy practices.
Globally, the United States tops the 2022 Financial Secrecy Index. It is followed by Switzerland, Luxembourg, the United Arab Emirates and the British Virgin Islands. In the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region, Qatar (20th) tops the list. It is followed by Saudi Arabia (25th), Algeria (34th), Kuwait (35th), Oman (47th), Egypt (56th), Morocco 79th and Tunisia (102nd).
