Morocco Ranks 78th in Global Fragility Index, Social Stability Concerns Persist

The Fund for Peace (FPP) has just published its 2019 report in which it talks about the fragility of the Maghreb countries, particularly regarding the social situation in Morocco.
The kingdom is thus ranked 78th, ahead of Algeria 72nd, while Tunisia takes 95th place, the best place in the Maghreb (1 being the most fragile country). For the FPP, quoted by the Tunisian site Kapitalis, "the countries of North Africa, namely Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia, seem to have stalled in their revolutionary zeal".
The FPP is concerned about the future of these countries because the conditions that triggered the mass popular uprisings still exist. "Many economic, social and political indicators continue to deteriorate. The rumblings of the revolution are once again resonating, less motivated by ideals this time, but rather by harsh reality, and by the fact that these ideals have not resulted in improving the living conditions of many citizens," writes the Kapitalis website.
Among the authors’ concerns is the problem of migration of young people to European countries. "This brain drain is also reflected in one of the report’s indicators, may be slow to change, and its effects can be ’devastating’," it is further read.
To edit its report, the FDD aggregates a lot of data, including: the fragmentation of the elites, the legitimacy of the State, the inequality of development, the state of public services, the human rights situation and the rule of law, demographic pressures and recorded refugee inflows and brain drain.
