Morocco Ranks 124th in Global Climate Risk Index, Study Finds

Morocco has just been ranked 124th in the global ranking of countries at climate risk in a report unveiled at COP24 held last December in Katowice, Poland.
In this 14th edition of its global index, the German NGO Germanwatch which conducted the study took into account several factors. Among these are the so-called extreme weather conditions, floods, storms, hurricanes and cyclones, extreme temperatures and population movements. In short, it is a matter of "assessing the extent to which countries have been affected by the effects of extreme weather events," the report says.
For the case of Morocco in particular, the report states that on average, between 1998 and 2017, the country recorded 15.7 deaths per year, obtaining a score of 100.50 points for the global climate index. In addition, Morocco lost an average of $174 million per year between 1998 and 2017 due to climate risks, according to the report.
Like Morocco, several other countries find themselves in this same position. These include Libya, Egypt, Lebanon, Kuwait, Qatar, or Luxembourg, Namibia, Mauritius, Malta, Mali, and the Maldives.
