Morocco Ranks 130th in Global Quality of Life Index, Study Finds

Morocco is among the countries where "quality of life" is least acceptable, according to a ranking compiled by the American website CEOWORLD Magazine.

Morocco is ranked 130th out of 199 countries in this ranking, which was based on the perceptions of more than 258,000 people around the world, who were asked to rate these countries on ten criteria including stability, transparency and equality. Monaco tops the list of countries offering the best quality of life, due to its security, political stability and well-developed public health system.

Among developed countries, only the United States, ranked 9th, is in the Top 10 of this list. Qatar occupies the 8th place in the ranking and is the only Arab country in the Top 10. France, on the other hand, is in 29th place. This ranking is close to the one carried out by the UN’s "World Happiness Report", aimed at establishing a "Human Happiness Index" (HHI) in addition to the Human Development Index (HDI). Finland occupies the first place in this ranking for the seventh consecutive time. It is followed by Denmark and Iceland.

The criteria used are: wealth, healthy life expectancy, solidarity, respect for individual freedoms, ambient generosity and trust in institutions in relation to the level of corruption. For the 2020-2022 ranking, Morocco occupies the 100th place out of 137 countries, just behind Palestine (99th) and Algeria (103rd). The United Arab Emirates, on the other hand, are ranked 26th, ahead of Saudi Arabia (30th). Afghanistan brings up the rear.

In addition, Morocco is absent from the ranking of the 500 best universities, where 6 American universities, 3 English and one Swiss make up the Top 10. The kingdom is ranked 140th out of 194 countries among "the most forested countries in the world"; 65th out of 192 among the "countries where it is nice for the elderly (over 60) to live"; 60th out of 142 among the "most influential countries". On the other hand, Morocco is 14th ex aequo with Egypt among "the most (and least) religious countries", far ahead of Saudi Arabia (43rd).
