Stranded Tourist's Moroccan Ordeal Ends in Cross-Border Triumph

A young Spanish woman recounts her misadventure during a trip to Morocco, where she says she spent days alone and without resources before getting help to return to Algeciras with her family.

In a video shared by the civil protection of Ceuta on its social networks, the young woman explains that her mobile phone was stolen in Morocco, and she could no longer communicate with her family and friends. This is how the tourist, who speaks neither Arabic nor French, found herself alone and lost in the kingdom. "I spent nights sleeping on the beach, under the stars, frightened, not knowing who to turn to. I thought of my family, who must have been desperately looking for me, and that idea was the only thing that allowed me to continue living," she explains in the video.

The Moroccan authorities and civil society organizations mobilized to provide her with support. "The Moroccan authorities, the SOS Desaparecidos association and its delegation in Ceuta, the Ceuta civil protection volunteers - this orange family - mobilized for me, even though they didn’t even know me," she testifies, particularly praising the efforts of an NGO in Rio Martil, and thanking "Yassini, who opened the roads of Morocco to find me," as well as "Sabah, who gave me a roof and human warmth when I needed it most."

The young woman did not fail to thank the Ceuta civil protection volunteers, who spared no effort to bring her back safe and sound to the autonomous city. "At that moment, I realized that I was not alone." The young woman finally joined Algeciras and reunited with her family. "What I experienced has taught me that solidarity has no borders and that when people with a solid heart come together, anything is possible," she insists, before concluding: "The motto #JuntosSumamos is not just a phrase: it is the reason why I can now tell my story with a happy ending."
