Airport Sting Uncovers Algerian Passport Fraud Scheme

Two Algerians were arrested at Rabat-Salé international airport in possession of fake passports as they were about to leave Morocco for France. The King’s Prosecutor at the Court of First Instance in Salé ordered their pre-trial detention.
It all started with a check carried out by the border police officers in charge of passport control. They suspected the authenticity of the documents presented by two Algerians who were about to board a plane bound for France, reports the daily Assabah. Suspicions confirmed by an officer during the scanner verification and consultation of the database. The passports had indeed been forged. The two travelers were immediately arrested.
After their arrest, an investigation was opened. The two Algerian nationals were handed over to the judicial police elements of the urban brigade to further the investigations. These revealed that the two travelers had entered Morocco a few weeks earlier using fake documents, presenting themselves as tourists, while their main objective was illegal immigration to French territory.
The forged passports, visas and other travel documents were seized and recorded in the prosecution’s reports. As for the other effects, they were made available to the court pending the appropriate judicial decision. The circumstances and conditions under which they obtained the forged passports remain unknown.
