Morocco Ramps Up Green Hydrogen Initiatives to Lead Renewable Energy Transition

Morocco is focusing more on green hydrogen when it comes to renewable energies. In this sense, several initiatives have been put in place to strengthen the kingdom’s position in the sector.

Morocco is gaining altitude in terms of sustainable development and is fully committed to succeeding in its energy transition. The country is emerging internationally as a leader in renewable energies, reports Aujourd’hui Le Maroc, adding that the deployment of green hydrogen is now at the heart of the activity of the Department of Energy, Mines and Environment and other relevant bodies. Several initiatives have already been launched throughout Morocco, the newspaper points out, stressing that these actions come in addition to the establishment of a development strategy, in line with the recommendations of the study that confirmed that Morocco has great potential for the development of this sector.

"The implementation of this strategy, the objective of which is to meet local demand and optimize the exploitation of national potential, in particular through exports, is structured around three strategic axes," indicates the Department of Energy. The first is technological development and cost savings. Then come investments and supply. The third axis focuses on markets and demand, in particular, the realization of demand opportunities. "In this regard, an action plan has been defined to implement the provisions of this strategy progressively and up to the 2050 horizon," the daily specifies.

In addition, the ministry will also take important measures for the local industrial integration of the hydrogen sector through the training of human resources and the transfer of expertise to Moroccan skills. It will also be a question of managing the necessary financing for the development of hydrogen and the related production activities, among other things. It should be noted that the objectives set for 2050 provide for the development of a national hydrogen market. Thus, all operators and investors are invited to use a clean energy based on green hydrogen.
