Morocco Ramps Up COVID-19 Response: 16 Million Masks Daily, 93% Industrial Jobs Recovered

Through the strength of its 60 textile factories, Morocco manages to produce 16 million masks per day. The announcement was made by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Green and Digital Economy.

Moulay Hafid Elalamy was thus responding to a central question in the House of Representatives on "The strategy adopted by the ministry to overcome the persistent repercussions of Covid-19". In addition to the rather comfortable mask manufacturing capacity, the minister stressed that thanks to the preventive measures taken by the ministry, 93% of jobs have been recovered in the industrial sector during the month of July.

Similarly, no jobs were threatened in the pharmaceutical sector, 97% in the automotive sector were saved and 92% in the textile and leather sector. The minister also mentioned the case of the only factory in Morocco specialized in the production of "ethanol". It produces 240 hectoliters per day of this essential alcohol for the manufacture of disinfectants.

Regarding artificial respirators, Moulay Hafid Elalamy explains that 500 respirators have been produced. But he reassures about the existence of resources that can allow "to produce 1,000 artificial respirators per week". He concluded his presentation on the digitization of the administration. From 30, the number of administrations now using the digital mailroom and the electronic signature has increased to 900 in six months.
