Morocco’s Industrial Sector Rebounds: 93% of Jobs Recovered Amid Pandemic

The Minister of Industry, Trade and Green and Digital Economy, Moulay Hafid Elalamy, says that many jobs have been recovered during the month of July in several sectors, particularly in industry.
Speaking before the House of Representatives on Monday, the minister responded to a question about his department’s strategy to overcome the persistent repercussions of Covid-19. On this occasion, he indicated that 93% of jobs have been recovered in the industrial sector during the month of July last year, 100% in the pharmaceutical sector, 97% in the automotive sector and 92% in the textile and leather sector.
According to Mr. Elalamy, the industrial systems have contributed to the success of the national strategies. Moreover, the ministry has achieved the objectives set for the year 2020, particularly in terms of job creation, with more than 505,000 positions.
As for the various Moroccan products manufactured during the health crisis, the minister said that the only factory in Morocco specialized in the production of "ethanol" produces 240 hectoliters per day of this essential alcohol for the manufacture of disinfectants. The 60 factories involved in the production of masks now have a production capacity of 16 million masks per day.
Regarding the production of artificial respirators, it has recently doubled. "It is possible to produce 1,000 artificial respirators per week," the minister said.
