Morocco Pushes Forward with High-Speed Rail Expansion to Agadir Despite Pandemic

Despite the health crisis that Morocco is experiencing due to the coronavirus, major construction projects continue. This is the case, for example, of the high-speed line (LGV) that is to connect Casablanca - Marrakech and Agadir.
A new decree published in the latest Official Bulletin has formalized the provision to the National Railway Office (ONCF) of 16 additional hectares of land belonging to the private domain of the State. This land is located in the Hay Mohammadi district (prefecture of Agadir Ida-Outanane).
The publication of this new decree follows the one on the expropriation of a 4-hectare plot of land dating from last March.
On the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the Green March, King Mohammed VI had, in his speech, called for fruitful reflections on the establishment of a rail link between Marrakech and Agadir, with a view to a subsequent extension to the rest of the southern provinces.
