Morocco Projects $1.4 Billion in Tobacco and Alcohol Tax Revenue for 2023

According to the 2023 Finance Bill, the public treasury expects to record revenues from the various taxes in force on cigarettes and alcohol, amounting to 14.4 billion dirhams.
More specifically, these revenues will come from the "fees imposed on manufactured tobacco", the "fees imposed on spirits and alcohols" and the "fees imposed on types of beer."
According to the forecasts, the State hopes for 12 billion and 500 million dirhams from the tobacco fee, 1 billion and 110 million dirhams from the beer fee, and 859 million dirhams from the alcohol fee.
It should be noted that during the 2022 fiscal year, the government had rejected an opposition proposal to increase the tax on beer and alcohol. The government’s estimates, derived from the revenues of fees on alcohols, beers and tobaccos, exceeded 13 billion dirhams.
