Moroccan Contraband Cigarette Market Grows to 1.91% in 2021, Customs Report Shows

The penetration rate of contraband cigarettes on the Moroccan market increased from 1.37% to 1.91% in 2021, according to figures published by the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration (ADII).
"The results of the 8th study on the prevalence of contraband cigarettes revealed that the penetration rate on the national market stood at 1.91% in 2021 against 1.37% in 2020," we read in the activity report for the year 2021.
This stability in the penetration rate recorded for the second consecutive year was made possible thanks to the mobilization of customs alongside the Police, the Royal Gendarmerie, the Royal Armed Forces and the Auxiliary Forces, and even the economic operators to counter this scourge and its harmful repercussions on the health of consumers, notes the ADII.
