Morocco Prioritizes Diaspora Vehicles at Melilla Border Crossing

Among the travelers arriving in Morocco from Melilla, Morocco gives priority to vehicles of Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) as part of the Marhaba Operation.
Several citizens of Melilla complained on Thursday about spending hours at the border before entering Morocco, because priority is given to the vehicles of MREs participating in the 2022 Marhaba Operation, according to sources from the Melilla government delegation to El Faro de Melilla, specifying that it is "an order from Morocco".
A resident of Melilla says he spent more than four hours in a long queue at the border with Morocco without moving an inch, while at the same time, MRE vehicles were allowed to cross the border. Overwhelmed by this situation which he considers "unfair", he decided to file a complaint with the local police.
"The necessary contacts are being established to be able to resolve this problem and seek a balance in order to accelerate the transit of Melilla citizens and thus reduce their waiting time at the border," the delegation reassured.
