Morocco Prepares for Ramadan as Sha’aban Month Begins

The first day of the month of Sha’aban of the year 1440 of the Hegira corresponds to Sunday, April 7, 2019, announced the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs in a press release. Ramadan in Morocco therefore begins in exactly one month.
The month of Rajab will have lasted 30 days this year, due to the non-observation on the 29th of Rajab 1440 of the Hegira corresponding to April 5, 2019, of the crescent moon announcing the month of Sha’aban, specifies the same source.
The observation of the crescent moon (Hilal) is ensured by the Nadirs of the Kingdom, the delegates of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and the Units of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR).
Now, less than 30 days separate the Moroccans from the month of Ramadan. The preparations are already beginning to be felt in the streets, where the scents of certain Ramadan specialties such as "Sfouf" or "Chebakia" are already reaching us.
The Prophet Muhammad had recommended that Muslims devote the 15th night of the month of Sha’aban to prayer and the following day to fasting. According to several Hadiths, the acts of Muslims are raised to God during this eighth month of the Muslim calendar.
