Morocco’s popularity among Chinese travelers surges more than 50%

Morocco was among the destinations that saw the strongest growth among Chinese travel company Tuniu’s customers during the National Day holiday, from October 1 to 7. The kingdom posted growth of more than 50% compared with the same period in 2025, on par with Turkey, according to figures released on October 7 by Tuniu and China Mobile Wutong Data, and reported by specialist outlet Tripvivid.

Morocco is not the only country benefiting from this enthusiasm for overseas travel. Canada, South Korea and the Netherlands recorded growth of more than 100%. Belgium, Egypt, Ireland, the United States and New Zealand each saw increases of more than 30%.

Chinese travelers also changed their holiday habits this year. More than 20% of Tuniu customers traveling in October chose to depart before the official start of the holiday to avoid the crowds. More than 10% even planned long trips combining the Mid-Autumn Festival with the National Day holiday.

Morocco benefits from interest already seen in 2025

This growth follows an earlier surge in Chinese bookings to Morocco in 2025. At the time, the Fliggy platform reported an increase of more than 270% in flight bookings since the start of the year, along with a 200% rise in sales of chauffeur-driven tours.

The kingdom is seeking to strengthen its presence among this customer base. In July 2025, the Moroccan National Tourism Office had signed a partnership with China Eastern Airlines, providing for joint promotional campaigns and better coordination of air links. The stated goal was to attract one million Chinese visitors by 2030.

The latest Chinese report also provides details about traveler profiles. People aged 50 and over account for nearly 40% of Tuniu customers taking long-haul international trips. Organized tours lasting more than ten days are particularly popular with this group.

Morocco stands out for its growth rather than its visitor numbers. The ranking of the most-visited foreign destinations among Tuniu customers during the holiday, published by Pinchain, includes South Korea, Indonesia, the Maldives, Italy and France. The kingdom does not feature among the top ten destinations.
