Morocco Poised to Produce Chinese Covid-19 Vaccine for African Market

One month before the start of the vaccination campaign in Morocco, the issue of local production of the anti-Covid-19 vaccine is more than topical. A Moroccan pharmaceutical laboratory would already be in the running.
According to the Akhbarchaab website, the SOTHEMA pharmaceutical laboratories would be the potential candidate for the manufacture and marketing of the Chinese anti-Covid-19 vaccine to African countries. The Ministry of Health is said to have already granted the necessary authorizations.
Last August, two cooperation agreements on clinical trials had been signed with the Chinese laboratory Sinopharm CNBG. Among the signatories were the Ministry of Health, the BMCE-BOA group and the Moroccan pharmaceutical giant SOTHEMA.
The role of the Moroccan laboratory was limited to monitoring and coordinating the clinical trials. "Sothema is the sponsor of the clinical study. We are supporting the Ministry of Health in setting up and carrying out the clinical trial," the CEO of the group told Medias24.
Although the issue of local production was not settled, the laboratory said it was ready to take up the challenge. "SOTHEMA has the skills and technology required for the pharmaceutical formulation of the vaccine. Our expertise has been acquired in the manufacture of biotechnology with insulin and biosimilar anticancer drugs," the president stressed.
