Morocco Partners Exclusively with China's Sinopharm for COVID-19 Vaccine Trials

While it is true that Chinese vaccines are being deployed in the experimental field, the one being used in Brazil is not related to the vaccine for which Morocco is participating in clinical trials. Sinovac and CNBG SinoPharm are two different Chinese laboratories, and Morocco is dealing exclusively with the latter.

Following an incident described as "serious" in a volunteer, the Brazilian health authority suspended on November 9 the clinical trials of the CoronaVac vaccine, developed by the Chinese Sinovac. As a result, confusion is quickly made with the other, in use in Morocco. But that’s not the case. The Moroccan government has signed cooperation agreements only with Sinopharm, reports Le360.

In addition, the CNBG Sinopharm laboratory is conducting its phase 3 clinical trials with Peru, Morocco, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Argentina. In these countries, Sinopharm is working with local pharmaceutical companies to promote vaccine research and development. In Morocco, for example, Sinopharm is collaborating with the pharmaceutical laboratory Sothema.

For the record, China has several experimental anti-covid-19 vaccines in advanced development. Of the seven vaccines tested in the world, four from China are currently in phase 3 of clinical trials. In addition to CNBG Sinopharm, the other vaccines are developed by Sinovac and CanSino Biologics. Indonesia and Brazil are participating in the phase 3 clinical trials of the vaccine developed by Sinovac. Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Russia, on the other hand, are participating in the phase 3 trials of the CanSino vaccine, the same site points out.
