Morocco Plans Vaccine Production Facility to Boost National Health Security

The project to set up an industrial production unit for vaccines, which is part of the strategic plan, was the subject of a study by the Board of Directors of the Pasteur Institute in Morocco, during its last ordinary session held on Wednesday, December 30.
During this meeting devoted to the examination of the project to build an industrial unit for the production of vaccines and biological products and chaired by Khalid Aït Taleb, Minister of Health, the Institute affirmed that the realization of this unit will make it possible to meet the national demand for vaccines, in order to fight against infectious diseases and poisonings from snake and scorpion bites.
This project will also strengthen Morocco’s positioning among the producing countries of biological products, in line with the recommendations of the WHO, the Pasteur Institute’s Board of Administration said in the press release. At the same time, the Institute proceeded to examine the second project related to the creation of a national center of expertise in specialized medical biological analyzes, which will make it possible to fight against the dangers of contagious and non-contagious diseases and to reduce the kingdom’s dependence on foreign resources or the outsourcing of certain specific analyzes and many other advantages.
It should be noted that the Board of Directors reviewed the activity report of the Pasteur Institute for the period 2019-2020 during this meeting. This report mainly concerns the realization of 678,264 PCR tests, the publication of 54 scientific projects in 2019 and 43 others in 2020, in the field of public health. The Institute also made public the first Moroccan English-language scientific journal on public health, and offered its services in the field of travel medicine, benefiting 127,200 citizens, especially in the areas of advice, medical guidance, vaccination and prevention against contagious diseases.
