Morocco Plans Rail and Highway Expansion to Connect Tetouan

Tetouan could soon be connected to the kingdom’s rail and motorway networks. The two projects are currently on the government’s table, reports the daily Al Akhbar. The inhabitants of the city are eagerly awaiting the realization of this connection, which will save them from having to travel several kilometers before taking the train or getting on a motorway.

The studies on these projects already exist and it will just be a matter of updating them, explains an Istiqlal deputy, specifying that these projects must be financed in whole or in part by the Council of the Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region. During a recent meeting on this subject, the Council was invited to increase the number of buses connecting Tetouan to the Tanger train station.

The connection of Tetouan to the rail and motorway networks will not only facilitate the mobility of the inhabitants of the city, but also boost the development of the entire region, promote tourism and create jobs. The realization of these two projects will also benefit other cities such as Chefchaouen, Ouazzane, Fnideq and M’diq.

Also, these two projects will undoubtedly attract investments in the city of Tetouan and its region. The construction of a new expressway connecting Tetouan and Martil, as well as the project to renovate the Saniat R’mel airport, whose runway will be completely rehabilitated, and the many other investment projects carried out or planned in the city, will contribute to the achievement of this objective.
