Morocco Plans High-Speed Rail Link from Fez to Rabat for 2030 World Cup

Morocco is accelerating the development of high-speed trains. It plans to launch a tender to select a specialized firm to study the high-speed train project Fez-Rabat passing through Meknes, the other city that will host the training and residences of the teams participating in the 2030 World Cup.
Morocco is moving slowly but steadily towards providing modern, world-class transportation equipment that meets FIFA standards for transporting supporters and delegations. It intends to realize the new high-speed line Fez-Rabat and is about to launch a tender to select a specialized firm to study the project. With a total cost of 23 billion dirhams, this project will reduce the travel time from Fez to Rabat, via the city of Meknes, from three and a half hours to one hour and 40 minutes. It is planned to develop the current railway line and to set up a new special railway line for a high-speed train, with the construction of several bridges at the level of the Khémisset province.
This new project and the other railway infrastructures under construction will not only facilitate the mobility of Moroccans and visitors during the 2030 World Cup, but will also increase its global competitiveness to become one of the world’s leading countries in high-speed rail networks, alongside major nations like China, France, Spain and Germany.
