Morocco plans cyberattacks on its own networks to test new defense teams

The Royal Armed Forces are setting up new cyberdefense teams. To assess them, they want to take part in US exercises and add simulated attacks to future editions of African Lion.

The requests were discussed from July 27 to 31 in Bedford, Massachusetts, the US Army reports in a publication dated September 29.

The FAR specifically discussed Cyber Shield and Wolverine as ways to test their “Cyber Protection Teams,” which are currently being formed.

They are already familiar with Wolverine: in April, Moroccan military personnel observed offensive and defensive teams there, then took part in analyzing incidents at a security operations center.

Simulated attacks in African Lion

The Utah National Guard is now preparing an invitation for a 2027 evaluation exercise pitting attackers against defenders. It is also considering taking part in an exercise held in Morocco.

The cooperation is also expected to contribute to African Lion. Exchanges with Utah specialists are planned as part of the training component of the 2027 edition, with the aim of introducing a cyberattack scenario in future editions.
