Facing 1,657 teams, Moroccans secure a place in the global cybersecurity final

The results were unveiled on Monday, September 7, by Kaspersky. The Moroccan team VoidSec won the Middle East, Türkiye and Africa division of KasperskyCTF, thereby securing its ticket to the final held in Bali, Indonesia.

In total, 1,024 university teams and 633 corporate teams took part in this edition. For 24 hours, they had to solve problems involving cryptography, the exploitation of computer vulnerabilities, artificial intelligence security and cyberthreat analysis.

Participants submitted nearly 17,000 “flags,” of which 5,238 were validated. The teams were divided into five regions, each designating its champion.

Moroccan team heads to Bali

Alongside VoidSec, the four other winners come from Colombia, Italy, South Korea and Russia. They will all meet from October 20 to 23 in Bali for the SAS CTF, organized as part of the Security Analyst Summit.

The competition will then change format. This time, the teams will have to defend their own systems while attacking those of their opponents. They will also face eight teams that qualified during a previous international selection process.

A total prize of 18,000 dollars is planned for this final. Morocco’s qualification comes as the Kingdom strengthens its capabilities in cybersecurity and digital infrastructure, a field that has become strategic for both businesses and government administrations.
